Mezzanine floor fire protection is the process of manufacturing and installing your mezzanine floor in a way that protects your building and its occupants from the threat of fire.
What’s Involved with Mezzanine Floor Fire Protection?
Steel doesn’t burn, it buckles, so to completely Fire Protect the mezzanine the following is implemented.
- Most often a Fire rated suspended ceiling is installed to the underside of the mezzanine floor to protect the mezzanine steelwork.
- All vertical support columns are protected via a four-sided column encasement system packed with fire retardant materials; these are generally available in a white or galvanised finish.
- To all open edges of the mezzanine a fire rated fascia panel is installed, these are also generally available in a white or galvanised finish.
- Cavity Barriers are installed within the ceiling void depending upon the size of the mezzanine. The purpose of a cavity barrier is to provide fire protection for a mezzanine floor by stopping the spread of fire from one compartment to another.
- Lighting is installed to the underside of the mezzanine complete with emergency fittings.
- Smoke detection is installed.
